We are thrilled to announce that Hostwriter has received financial support from the German Postcode Lottery (Deutsche Postcode Lotterie), enabling us to further our mission of fostering diverse and inclusive journalism, particularly in climate reporting.

“The German Postcode Lottery was one of the funders behind our very first larger global climate investigation, the Sinking Cities Project, which was awarded the EJC Climate Award in 2023 – and we are especially honored to have been granted continued support in 2024-2025. It is a great testimony to the quality of our work and another vote of confidence for our organization and our mission.” Julia Vernersson, Co-Managing Director

As climate change becomes one of the most urgent issues of our time, it is crucial that reporting on it reflects the diversity of perspectives impacted by this global crisis. Cross-border climate journalism offers a broader, more nuanced view of how climate change affects different regions and communities, highlighting local solutions and shedding light on often overlooked intersections such as climate and inclusion or climate and democracy.

The support from the German Postcode Lottery will enable Unbias the News to continue our work of covering climate while breaking through structural barriers in the media sector. We focus on adding more presence of local journalists to the global stage by prioritizing the work of local journalists who have full access to their local context and the necessary background to explain the bigger picture to their public. We believe local journalists are best placed to identify actors and movements that can make changes and to inform the public about the policies and individuals responsible for climate change preparations- or lack thereof.

Katja Diemer, Head of Charities at the German Postcode Lottery, says: “We are pleased that, thanks to our numerous participants, we can support this great project. Together with Hostwriter and the more than 2,400 other organizations we have supported since our lottery began, we show that together, we are committed to people, nature, and a better world—this is our #PostcodeEffect. And this project contributes to that. We wish all the best and much success in its implementation.”
